What People Don't Understand

I'm a nature lover. I enjoy hiking and camping and one day I would enjoy living in the wilderness for one month to a couple years just for the experience. A man that I admire is Henry David Thoreau. I have recently gotten his book "Walden" from my public library and have started to read it. For those of you that do not know, Thoreau went into the wilderness for two years, two months, and two days. He lived there, on his own for that time just enjoying life.

I was on Yahoo Answer earlier just putting in different things and came across this-

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060724093800AA7UVUg

"I am a former longtime boyscout and outdoor enthusiast so survival would be a challenge but very possible. I have become very upset with the direction society has taken and would like to live in a remote undisturbed wilderness location for 1-3 years to search for the answers of life that I can not answer in such a jaded society. ~ Jett

I think this is a very good idea, as you already know. It should be an exciting experiment to go out for 1-3 years just living in the wilderness. I would enjoy doing something like that sometime. However, as I was reading through the answers I came across a few that I found interesting.

"Yes you can. i have been unemployed for the last 4 yrs at a university. Same difference. you will probalby find it very unpleasant out there. maybe you need to stay in contact with people. you need to find friends and get educated. there you will find the answers to life. when you come out of the wilderness in three years, you will probably find your self so different that you will run back in the for good. you won't live a long life due to no medical care. wouldn't you rather make money and visit the planet than be broke and live in the woods? i hope that you don't make any foolish decisions." ~ Careful

"I don't see why you would want to do that. I guess it would be legal as long as you aren't trespassing on private property." ~ Josh

"I would not totally live in tha wilderness maybe you could live in a camper or RV in tha woods but not completely." ~ brandy c

These three people are the ones with answers that I do not agree with. I'm going to respond to them, and then I'll respond to the answers that I enjoyed.

In response to Josh and Brandy C-

You two do not fully understand the minds of some people. There are those of us that actually enjoy experiencing life and living it to the extreme. There are those of us that would enjoy living in the wilderness with no modern day technologies just to see what it's like. Josh, you may not want to do something like that, and that's alright but some of us find it quite exciting. Brandy c, Why would we take a camper or RV along with us? Part of the experience is living without these "comforts" of life. A tent maybe, or even better, going out and making your own shelter. Why take along a vehicle when that's the type of stuff that we're trying to escape?

In response to Careful-

First I would like to address that second to last sentence you have right there. "wouldn't you rather make money and visit the plant than be broke and live in the woods?" That's a good question and I can't answer for Jett, but I can answer for what I think. Money isn't everything, in fact for people that know me, they can tell you that I wouldn't care if I had almost no money. Also, who says you can't visit the planet without money? Sure it would be hard to go overseas, but you don't need money in order to travel, you only need basic survival skills. I would love to live in the woods and not have to worry about money or any of the other things that society tells you that you need these days.
Living with no medical care? That's fine, the natives did it before we came to America. Plus there are plants out there that will actually clean your teeth and do other things to help take care of you, and it doesn't cost any money, it only requires a knowledge of wildlife and plants! Addressing your comment to a long life, how about living a short life but being happy?

Anyways, hope you people enjoyed this blog post, I may have gone a little crazy. :D

U.S. soldiers burn copies of the koran! (good job!)

I don't know if you people heard about this, but some U.S. soldiers burnt copies of the koran because some muslims were using it to pass messages to each other. The muslims then got angry about this and killed at least six soldiers. Then to make matters worse Obama apologized to the muslims...where do his loyalties lie? Because he doesn't seem to care about his own troops at all, he even had the soldier arrested and they are now awaiting punishment. This is crazy! I think we should give those soldiers medals! They burnt messages that muslims put in their own "holy book", it was their fault not ours. Don't punish our soldiers, punish those crazy muslims! And would you look at this! Our soldiers, putting their lives on the line every day for us and securing our freedom can't burn the koran, but the muslims can burn and disrespect our flag?! I say, send in our military and kill those people! If they don't want their "holy books" to be disrespected then don't write in them in the first place! And don't burn our flags! And stop those terrorists that they support! Our soldiers should not be punished for what they did!

Random Thoughts

I was sitting in my Science class the other day, being bored and I decided to start writing. Enjoy.

Success is not how much money or how many possessions a person has, but how happy they are. A man who has many possessions and lots of money could be a very unhappy man and yet a man who has little to nothing could be very happy. Sometimes when you're working hard, trying to make money and be "successful", you are just wasting your life and not enjoying life. He who is happy has had a much more successful life than he who is not happy. I say ignore the world's version of success and make your own. You don't need to have a really good paying job to travel the world, just travel.

Friday Quote #3

This Friday's quote is by Barack Obama!

"America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles of justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings."

Is that so? I see a lot of muslims going around blowing themselves and other innocent people up...how is that the same for America? The muslims consider everyone else who isn't of their faith to be infidels and think they should all be wiped out, so much for tolerance and dignity. And speaking of dignity has anyone else noticed that their wives (and other females) are treated like they're inferior and don't have any rights?

Dignity (from dictionary.com): A sign or token of respect.

Well so much for that. Muslims make their women dress completely covered, push them around, DON'T treat them with respect, and have many wives. I think someone needs to rethink their ideas about America and Islam being the same!

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez is one of my favorite artists and I was listening to her songs when this Youtube Video popped up as a suggestion. I clicked on it and watched it. You people are crazy and stupid! You saw Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber at the mall, so what? They're normal people, they do normal things, and they enjoy hanging out at malls and such places. That doesn't give you the right to follow them around, get in their way and ask them stupid questions that you want to know the answers to! In case you people didn't notice, THEY DIDN'T WANT YOU THERE! LET THEM ENJOY THEIR TIME TOGETHER!
I would hate being famous, I would probably end up hitting someone in a situation like that!

Friday Quote #2

This Friday's quote is by Confucius.

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

What a quote! So simple, and straight to the point. How true this is, right? How many people choose a job and don't enjoy it? That just makes it harder for them to actually do the work set before them. On the other hand, someone who has a job they enjoy, it's barely anything for them. In my opinion a person should go for a job that they enjoy and will allow them to get by, instead of a job that they hate and make a lot of money with. It's even better when they have a job that they enjoy and make money with!

Celebrities

Alright, I have a question for you. Why does everyone get all caught up in what celebrities are up to and the types of things that they enjoy and don't enjoy? I was scanning google news earlier for any interesting news and I noticed this article, Outrageous Celebrity Demands. What is wrong with these singers wanting certain foods when they're on tour? The article said that Selena Gomez enjoyed turkey sandwiches but didn't like wonder bread. What's wrong with that? And how is it outrageous? I don't like wonder bread. I prefer 8 grain bread when I make sandwiches, but nobody is going to get all crazy if I say that. So why do they think it's "outrageous" when someone famous wants it their way?
Adele also enjoy sandwiches but on hers she doesn't like, "Chili, vinegar, tomatoes or any form of citrus.." OH NO! SHE IS SO PICKY! guess what people, so am I! I like tomato, but not too much of it. and vinegar? I don't think so.
Finally in the end of the article they come out with Katy Perry's CRAZY demands. "Katy's tastes are a little weirder than her fellow pop stars. Along with a water cooler- plus a SIGG bottle for each of her crew members - the recent divorcee also demands freeze-dried strawberries." And we all know that wanting to have WATER of all things is completely OUTRAGEOUS, right? Why would she want a water cooler, when all she's doing is SINGING?! and strawberries?! really? hey people, LET THEM ENJOY THEIR FOOD! What's wrong with wanting the type of food, or drinks that you enjoy? I also love how they just HAD to point out that Katy Perry is divorced. I didn't even know that until I read this article, and guess what? I didn't need to know that! No matter what you people may think, she has a private life too! Stop following these people around just because they're famous. Don't tell us every little detail of their life! IT DOESN'T MATTER!

My Absence

hey people, sorry I haven't been posting lately. I just got into a fighting class and it's been taking up a lot of my time. It's a really good fighting class. I used to think I was in great physical shape, but the teacher there has pushed me farther than I've gone before! I've been in so much pain recently!

Feminists

You know something that annoys me? It's feminists. Let me specify here before you get all angry at me, I have nothing against women, I don't go around acting like a muslim and thinking that females are way below men. Here's what does annoy me though, it's when women want to be completely equal with men, no differences. That's never going to happen, we will never be equals. Men can do things that Women can't and vice versa. Almost every man has the mental ability to go through war, to fight, to kill, and some will even enjoy it. Most women can't do that. I read this article about a lady who was serving in Iraq and while she wasn't in a combatant position she was out in a town or something with some of her friends. While they were there an Iraqi blew the head off one of her friends, standing right next to her. After that she said that she would never be able to handle combat.

If you want to be equal with us men, why don't you start holding the door open for us? Why don't you pay for the meal when going on a date with us? What's to stop us men from getting into fights with you, literal fist fights? That's not the way things are supposed to be. Men like you the way you are and we don't want you to be like us. Men and women are different for a reason, and I can honestly say that if there was a girl stronger than me or who was a body builder, I wouldn't feel attracted to her in the least. Men are better, physically, than women. That's just the way it is, that's the way God made us. Why would you want to change that?

I respect those who want to make more of themselves and want to be in higher positions than other women do, but I don't like it when a female wants to be equal or better than a guy in every way. People need to learn to be content with who they are. I have a friend that I always argue with (for fun) and we're always competing with each other, but I like her because even though we always argue about who would win in an arm wrestling match or anything like that she once told me that I'd better win because I'm guy. (I'm gonna have to find that email. I seem to have lost it.) Be content with who you are, don't try to be someone that you aren't.

The Color Purple

The color purple used to be the color of royalty. I think it sometime around the 19th century that it stopped being associated with royalty. It takes 12,000 shellfish to get just 1.5 grams of pure purple dye. Wow, that's pretty crazy!

Recently people have been saying that purple is not a "manly" color, or that purple is a female's color. When did this happen, and why? guess what, it's just a color. If you're a guy and you're too ashamed to wear the color purple because you think it's not a manly color then guess what, you aren't manly enough! You can't wear a color because you think it's "just for girls"?

Here are a couple yahoo answers for you.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080201163514AAAv2P0

"It's not the color that makes a man manly or feminine. It's the man himself. If you are a manly man, you can wear any color you want and you will still look like a man. But if you are slight and feminine looking, you will look feminine in it." By Artsy, http://answers.yahoo.com/activity?show=505e3f83987a61e99475b376a8d587e2aa)

"Well, I think it is! Purple is so hot! I mean, really, how many guys will wear purple? Only the manliest, just like with pink. Yeah, some guys think it isn't, and that's fine, but I would rather date a guy who is happy wearing pink or purple, instead of saying it's too girly. I mean, what an insult!" By Angle from Somewhere,(http://answers.yahoo.com/activity?show=z3A8meCNaa)

I happen to like Angel's answer a lot better. I mean come on, you may think that only a gay guy should wear purple, but honestly how much balls does it take to wear a color that everyone is going to criticize you for wearing?

Tuesday Quote #2

"Moreover, if you are restricted in your range by poverty, if you cannot buy books and newspapers, for instance, you are but confined to the most significant and vital experiences." Henry David Thoreau.

Stop living Vicariously through others, go out and live life for yourself. Put down that book, turn off the T.V., and stop reading these blogs or facebook status's! Go out! You are not truly living until you can experience life's wonders for yourself! Are you reading a book or watching a movie about someone exploring the world? Someone living in the wilderness? Someone owning their own business? Well then stop reading or watching, go out and try it for yourself. Why shouldn't you be able to do those types of things yourself? One is limited only by themselves.

How much should I tip?

Do you ever think about how much you should tip your waiter/waitress? A lot of people don't really tip that much, they figure that they don't have to because the waitress is just doing their job. Did you know that in Idaho waitresses don't have to be paid even minimum wage? They can be paid three dollars an hour because their bosses figure they'll make up the rest of it in tips. Maybe in really nice restaurants they could, but at smaller places like Wingers they make maybe sixteen or twenty dollars in tips as an average. People need to learn how to start tipping better. I think at the least you should tip twenty percent, so if you get a thirty dollar meal then tip six dollars, twenty dollar meal tip four, etc. If you can't afford to tip well, then why bother going to a restaurant like that in the first place?

Golden Corral

Today me and my family went to the Golden Corral. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's a buffet restaurant. I haven't been there in over a year, but today it was really good! The main food that I ate there was steak, rolls, and some ice cream. It was delicious! I haven't eaten steak in so long, I had forgotten what it tasted like. The rolls were freshly baked and had melted butter spread all over them. The instant I took a bite, it seemed to melt in my mouth. I want to go there more often now!

I had also noticed some interesting things there. First, a lot of Mexicans seem to go there. Them and old and sometimes fat white people. Another thing that I found really rude was this old lady who saw a fork laying on the floor. She apparently decided that it was in her way so she just kicked it out of the way. Really?! Couldn't she have at least picked it up or told a waitress about it? Anyways, shortly after a waitress did go and pick it up.

Friday Quote #1

As Requested by Kayla I will be talking about a quote by Johann Van Goethe.

"One cannot always be a hero, but one can always be a man." Johann Van Goethe.

I didn't completely understand this quote but this is what I've got. I have taken this quote two ways, the first is this; A hero is someone who stands up for what he believes is right no matter. They are willing to do right, even if it might get them hurt. A person can't always be a hero, sometimes we just want to retreat and go along with the crowd. A man could  be one who is just human, one who will go with whatever everyone else is doing, which is what one can always be. If that is the case, then I'm afraid that I must disagree with this quote, you don't EVER have to back down.

A man could also be one who is just what it says, a man. A man is seen as one who is strong, one who is tough and won't back down. If this is the case, then I say yes. One can always be strong if they have the will.

Thank you for your comments, please keep em coming.

Nature

So I have this Uncle that lives over in Washington, he's my age (one month older), and one of my best friends. Whenever I go there to visit we usually go to the woods to explore/walk around. Last year when we were walking on a path, we decided that it would be much funner to get off the trail and not follow it. I always wonder why people only follow the path, besides the fear of getting lost. It's so much more interesting to go off the path and see what else there is.

I am a big nature lover, although I'm not a tree hugger. I enjoy going camping, hiking, and doing other outdoor activities. It's always so much fun. In a later post I'll go ahead and tell you about one my favorite hiking spots in Idaho. I'll even post a couple winter pictures, but for now...I'll be going.

Tuesday Quote #1

I've decided that every Tuesday and Friday I will post a quote on here and then analyze it a little. Today's quote is by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

"...None but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried."

Ralph Waldo Emerson is saying that no one else can tell you what you can or can't do. Only you know your limits. Only you can tell the things that you can do, and even you don't know if you can do something until you've actually tried it. Don't be afraid to try something, as Nike says, "Just Do It" :D

If you have any quotes or any other topics that you would like to see me post about go ahead and comment and I'll get a post up for you.

New Science Curriculum

Today I am going to analyze an article that I found on the internet and give my opinion about it.
http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21328483.300-us-education-advocates-tackle-climate-change-sceptics.html
This article is talking about how several states and schools are thinking about changing the curriculum that is being taught in Science classes today. Some people are saying that we should begin teaching "Climate Change Skepticism" in our schools. This would be for students who do not believe in the theory of global warming and would also allow students to analyze the theory. I believe that we should teach students to think more independent and not just follow everything the teacher tells you. We should teach both sides of topics that are especially controversial in school. Such topics could be the Big Bang and evolution theories and the theory of global warming.

I think that once one school begins to teach something like this, then many others will follow their example. Today in schools the teachers are teaching only one side of a story. Look at evolution, do they ever tell you that there's a chance that creationism could be true? No. Is it really teaching if you're not helping students think about the topic? What you are really teaching students is that they should follow you and listen to whatever you tell them. Independent thinking is, in my opinion, one of the most important things that we can teach to the youth of America today; "Learning with thought is labor lost; thought without learning is perilous." Confucius.

Albert Einstein once said, "The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education. This is a good quote and in a way shows what is happening now. The schools are educating students on a topic, but are not allowing them to learn about the whole concept. They are not allowing us to see the other side unless we do the research on our own, and let's face it, almost no one is going to do that! The youth and a lot of adults are getting even more lazy, they don't let their minds wander, they don't think about subjects. We need more Socrates and Pato's today. We need more people that will actually go into a topic with an open mind and explore both sides of it, people that actually know how to think.

Zombie Ants

Did you know that there's a fungus that will infect an ant and make it do it's bidding? This fungus will attach itself to an ant as it passes by and releases chemicals into its body that allows the fungus to control it. The fungus will direct the ant to an area where the fungus can thrive the best and spread its spores. Once the ant reaches the area it will clamp down on a leaf and die shortly after. Interestingly enough, researchers have found that the ant will only clamp down at high noon and die sometime in the evening. What's also interesting is that the fungus (Ophiocordyceps) seems to mostly infect Carpenter ants. the Ophiocordyceps lives and grows only in rain forests, mostly in Brazil and some in Thailand.

Now one thing that everyone loves and has become a huge craze lately is zombies. This causes me to think about something. What if scientists were able to somehow mutate this fungus and make it control humans? What if they could create true, human zombies? I wouldn't be surprised if some scientists were trying to figure out a way to create zombies right now. This may seem like a crazy thing to most people, but I happen to think that it's a very interesting topic.

Doing Your Work

As you may have read from my previous post, I don't really care for the education system. However, I still think that we must do well in school. Whether we like it or not, we must complete High School in order to get a good job. Unless of course, you decide you want to travel the world with no commitments getting whatever job you can at the time and making enough money to go on to the next place, which I have actually thought about and think might be interesting. I would love to just rough it, and backpack across the world getting a small job here and there and then just continuing. Anyways, I'm getting off the point here. I think that we should do well at something even if we don't like it. Just because you don't care for a subject at school doesn't give you the right to just fail it.

Last year I failed my history 1 class. I was Sophomore in High School, I'm now a Junior and I am paying for the mistake I made. I thought that I could just get away with turning in little to none of my assignments just because I didn't care for the class I was in. This year I now have to retake that History class which takes away one of my electives. If I had passed the class last year I would have an extra credit and get early release during my Senior year, but now I can't. Believe me, you should try your hardest whether you like it or not. I am still paying for failing a class.

Education

Education....Everything revolves around education these days. You have twelve years of school and after that you have the choice to go to college for another four years or more. But it really isn't that much of a choice for most people. You're pressured into going to college;  Your parents tell you to go to college, your teachers tell you, colleges tell you, jobs tell you, everyone tells you to go to college! You're basically told that you wont go anywhere if you don't get a good degree. Teachers give you charts showing you how much you could make if you go to college and how much you would make if you didn't go to college. Ready for my big opinion? SCHOOL IS A WASTE OF TIME! Maybe not all of school, maybe not all of college, but a lot of it is. I think we should only have nine to ten years of school and then get to decide if we get our education. I think that instead of having to go to college and getting a degree, you should be able to go and just learn that trade. Why do you have to go to college to become a Veterinarian? Why can't you just go to someone who is already one and learn from them? Why do you need a license in order to help other people or animals? Education wasn't always a big deal, you could just go and learn a trade and then do it. Sure you need to know things about diseases that animals can get, you need to know some biology and other sciences, but haven't you ever heard of research? A person could get books from their local library; or read article is in magazines, newspapers, or online. They could do this and not have to pay for college! I actually learn better on my own, than having to listen to some teacher give a lecture on a subject. Different minds work different ways, so why force people to go to college in order to get the job they want? I say let people choose if they want to go to college or not.
